Marlee's SmileMarlee's Smile Foundation
Marlee’s Smile Foundation provides bears to kids who are battling cancer, as well as their siblings. Marlee Hope Pack was diagnosed with cancer at 8 years old. When granted a Make-A-Wish, she used that wish to give to others. She used it to set up a Build-A-Bear workshop at the hospital so the kids on the Oncology unit could have a bear. She said, “I decided on this wish because I know what it is like to feel bad in the hospital and getting a bear would have made me feel better.” Marlee gained her healing on the other side of heaven at age 12 and now Marlee’s Smile Foundation is carrying out her legacy of giving. |

Connor’s Story
On December 15, 2014, four year old Connor was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). Within days, Connor lost his ability to swallow, speak and move. He immediately underwent in-patient radiation and chemotherapy treatment for 30 days at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas. This treatment only halted the tumor growth temporarily and despite a courageous effort, Connor never regained his ability to walk or full functionality of the right side of his body. On October 29, 2015, Connor succumbed to this terrible disease. What is DIPG?
DIPG is a rare, inoperable brain tumor found in the pons, a part of the brainstem that controls essential bodily functions. There is currently no cure and treatment options are limited. As the tumor grows, it deprives a child of the ability to move, communicate and even to eat and drink. DIPG affects children almost exclusively, typically between 5– 10 years old. It is the leading cause of death from pediatric brain cancer. Over 99% of children diagnosed with DIPG survive less than 2 years. |
